Class Size, Structure, & Schedules
We gathered input from our beginning families to create our calendar this year. We will do the same next August.
2024/25 Calendar
Class Meets -
Mondays - Thursdays from 9:30AM-2:30PM
Class Size -
We will cap enrollment at no more than 16.
Structure
Grade Levels Served -
We serve grades 3-8. (We can make exceptions for 2nd graders who are strong applicants.) Our goal would be to eventually offer a class/microschool for grades 2-4 and a class for grades 5-8 at our location.
Schedule
Because we...
Have a small class size
Have only one class
Have a select community who benefit from our teaching model
Get to know our students and only teach them what we know they need
A strict behavior system
Integrate “Specials Classes” (Art, Music, & P.E.) into our Flexible Learning Block and Student Exploration times
We do not need as much time as a typical school to get through the curriculum each day and year.
Our Daily Schedule -
Each day we will have a morning meeting, Math, English, Student Exploration (individualized learning time), lunch, brain break/mindfulness, as well as a large Flexible Learning Block.
The Flexible Learning Block -
Teachers build units of learning that incorporate Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies, & Writing into projects, thematic units, hands on learning, etc. Some units will be for the whole class, differentiated for ability/grade, and others will be in small groups. Teachers will also build choice and take into account student interests to build these units.
We will also be partnering with The Gifted Collective to allow scheduling of before and after school activities for children who want to participate or for families who need longer learning days. Students enrolled in the Gifted Microschool will receive a discount on all enrichment courses at The Gifted Collective!
Hybrid Option
Being a small independent school, we have a lot of flexibility. Our standard in person school schedule is four days a week, Monday - Thursday, 9:30 to 2:30. This allows us time to really work with our students, go in depth, compact the curriculum for their individual needs, move at their pace, and support them socially and emotionally. This also allows for plenty of time for activities and interests outside of the school day.
What Is A Hybrid Model?
For families and children that need more flexibility, we are excited to be able to offer a hybrid-model. This model offers both in person learning days as well as days at home for independent work and practice each week.
How It Works
After getting to know each child, our microschool teacher assigns individualized language arts and math assignments, as well as individualized projects in the areas of science and social studies, that can be done at home (or at school). On the days students are at our location, the teacher will be able to work with the student, offering individualized learning, track their progress, provide specific instruction and interventions, as well as coordinate and facilitate hands-on team projects and activities with their classmates. On the days children are not physically at school, they will have personalized, meaningful activities to work on (with follow up the next time they attend in-person).
We hope that this hybrid model will help meet the needs of families who may be further away from our location where transportation may be an issue, as well as children who really only need one or two days a week of in-person instruction. We are planning for our standard hybrid schedule to be two days in person and two days at home each week, but this can be adjusted based on needs. We are flexible!
Hybrid Registration and Enrollment
Registration and enrollment for the hybrid model is the same as our standard registration and enrollment. Please follow the steps on our website to begin that process. Please email us if you have any questions.
